Alloy twinkle in my eye

In my world, vanity and technology like to hold hands. They skip down the shopping mall and giggle as the transaction machine goes “ka-ching”!

Though it has been years in the making, the transition is not what I have imagined it to be. I am still paranoid about ruining it with coffee or flying bugs. Ah well that’s me.

Back to customising the new tech baby – Apple MacBook Pro. Yeah.

Caught by the sound

How many pictures have you taken with your phone-camera during this holiday season? And did you or your subjects find the shutter sound annoying and you have since turned it off?

It may soon be impossible to do so in the US. A new bill to require mobile phones containing digital cameras to make a sound when a photograph is taken has been proposed.

I can see where the sponsor is coming from. I can almost understand the need to safeguard privacy. But seriously. If some weird person wishes to take unauthorised pictures, this shutter thing will not be his or her biggest hurdle.

Dubbed as the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act, how I see it – it should have a function that screams upon the shutter-click, “Your picture has just been captured by [fill in cellphone number]. Contact the police if you do not authorise this act.” Now, that will be an alert.

Dressing up the X1

Warning: Long geek post ahead.

Since the much needed purchase1 of the Xperia a month ago, customisation becomes an interesting pastime.

It is my virgin experience with a WinMo phone. I must have spent 70% of my internet bandwidth on XDA and have a serious love-hate relationship with the developers. On one hand, you want to try everything. On the other, you don’t really understand all the steps and are mildly paranoid about conflicts, if any.

Anyway. My X1 is almost fully dressed (or rather, I am getting tired). In alpha order.

1. AvantGo2
2. Batti
3. Facebook panel3
4. FDCSoft Task Manager
5. HandyShopper
6. HTC HD Dialer
7. HTC HD Keyboard
8. HTC HD TouchFlo3D
9. HTC HD TouchFlo3D panel
10. KeePass
11. MSS Converter
12. MyMobiler
13. SPB BackUp
14. SPB MobileShell
15. XperiaTweak

What’s missing. If you have any recommendations, shout.
1. Twitter. TwitToday looks promising.
2. WordPress. I have installed the WPhone plugin but would much prefer for a WinMo app.
3. Expense management. I have tried so many.
4. Flash plugin for web browsing. For some reason, youtube works but regular websites don’t.
5. Bodyguardz for X1. Not an app but hey, it is equally important.

Yeap, no GPS software at all. I am pretty satisfied with Google Maps.

The phone took it first dive today. It was a very sad moment.

  1. In case you are sniggering, I almost suffocated in Seoul without a 3G phone. Yes it is a need-buy! []
  2. For some reason, screen scrolling does not work. []
  3. Panels are exclusive to X1 at the moment. Not a regular WinMo app []

O X1, where art thou?

It is really testing my patience! And it does not help that my head is hurting from yesterday clash-into-company-shuttle incident.

Xperia X1 was officially launched last weekend, have put myself on the waitlist, and still, no news. Everyday, I can only read about the mods and customisations on the forums. Driving myself crazy with a folder full of zip and cab that cannot be fulfilled to their full glory without the transmitter.

To the WOWers, congratulations on the launch of the Lich King. Back to the days of dreading Tuesdays!

Down with number barrier!

Finally. It sure took them long enough to let go of the baby pram. I must admit that after being one of the most loyal customers of M1, I’m looking forward to the new regulation and enjoy full mobile portability from June 13!

I am a sucker for the familiar. I like my mobile number. I like the fact that people whom I have not spoken to for years will be able to call me one day and go, “hey still the same number!” I am sad that way.

Call forwarding is a disguise. Now I cannot wait for October. Sorry to lose my loyalty discount, guess they could have done more to keep oldbies like me.

Now we need free intra-operator calls!

Seeing nano black

Don’t judge me. I needed to save my 2008. It started with a broken ipod (plus external hdd), broken mobile phone, and a head of frustrating permed hair. What is a girl to do?

ipodnanoblack

Like what a rational person would do, I shopped. The iPod nano black is so tiny. It is very likely be bent out of shape during the honeymoon bliss. It’s rather sad that I have just 5 albums to sync. I am that boring.

Wish (PRODUCT)RED is available in Singapore though. If you know that it is and it still is, don’t tell me. Thanks.

Now what phone should I get?

Face of (web)social networking

So I admit. I like Facebook. When Dee first invited me to sign up in June, I did but shrugged it off soon after.

Anyway it is rather exhilarating to see “So&So is now your friend” popping up from the system tray. Hey, I have not met most of them for years. How can I, thus, be blamed for setting the homepage to auto-refresh every minute? So far, I’ve only had dinner with one of them since our reunion on FB. I sure hope this will continue.

Add me, if you know me and I will throw you a pretty fluffy pillow.
