Catching on

Thanks to Jasmin (@fancypiece), Twitter has made my workday less productive. No seriously, updates are fun, especially if you are one who can sit in a cafe for hours just to follow a saga (read: #awaresg). It’s like catching the blue bird flu.

On a flu-related note, H1N1 has made history. It’s officially a pandemic season. Gotta get more masks and wipes for the upcoming trip(s).

This post is made to test twittertools. Ignore at your convenience.

Move along

Past couple of weeks have been sobering. It has annoyingly made me toss and think about the transience of life events, direction and ultimately, existence.

Of course, Saving Gaia is probably a greater burden/ cause/ publicity than a person’s selfish wonderment of what can be done better, or just differently. One decision leads to another. I learned that reading Walt Disney books where the development of the story depends on your choice for Mr Scrooge. With books, you can always go to the alternative ending in the book. No question asked.

Sitting at the wake, my eyes warmed to tears that I did not realize that I have for her.

You swam, in synchrony
through the night
In the rush, we dived.
Sorry for not being where,
this night, the night your eternity lies.

Seasonal flu greeting

It is always a joyful moment when the plane touches down safely. I enjoy seeing the spoilers flapping about. The brisk walk to the immigration checkpoint is often uneventful and something you don’t really register in your head.

But it is afterall the season for flu. With the alert on H1N1, it won’t be an overseas trip if there is no heightened health checks. I was actually surprised not to see masked super-serious-officers behind the desks. It is one thing to scrutinise the declaration forms, it is another to ask passengers to queue amongst hundreds of people in an overcrowded and poorly ventilated area for 45mins. It cannot be healthy. If the carrier sneezes carelessly, it would be santa-in-disneyland for the virus!

Plus it does not help when you overhear, “Have we sent the 2 persons to the hospital?”

In full bloom

Finally made it to Japan for Sakura! 2009 has been a good year, despite the economic and political disappointments.

Spent nine days soaking up the weather, culture, food, and most importantly the amazing views that only nature can orchestrate.

Sakura sky

During one of the legs, I decided that I want to take a road trip in a train. Through the plains of mountains and paddy fields, it calms me in ways I did not know is possible.

Fast forward

Spent the past two months soaking up company and snapping photos. Like most people, I try to keep to my new year resolutions in the early part of the new year. Doing pretty well so far.

Of the many things, finally made it to the Marina Barrage. View from the nation’s pride was stunning. It stirs a silent sense of peace and at the same time, makes one whine about not having a better camera that can handle night shots.

From the barrage

Side lesson – never sit in a cigar room when you don’t smoke. Your eyes will be the first to go. Having said that, Connoisseur Divan is lovely with pleasant hosts.

It comes alive

I swear. I gasped and did not let go of that breath.

The National Geographic retail store in Vivo City took my breath and well-spent 45mins away. Maybe it is the melancholic tunes blasting in my ears or the lighting, I literally did not want to leave too soon.

From the finds in the nature to man-made artifacts, it is indeed an experiential concept for a retail outlet. I stood in the photo gallery for a long time. Several times, I found myself smiling and dazed, as if I was standing next to the photographer. They have captured.

Note to self: Spend less time doing nothing. Go out and be injected with similar beauty.

Caught by the sound

How many pictures have you taken with your phone-camera during this holiday season? And did you or your subjects find the shutter sound annoying and you have since turned it off?

It may soon be impossible to do so in the US. A new bill to require mobile phones containing digital cameras to make a sound when a photograph is taken has been proposed.

I can see where the sponsor is coming from. I can almost understand the need to safeguard privacy. But seriously. If some weird person wishes to take unauthorised pictures, this shutter thing will not be his or her biggest hurdle.

Dubbed as the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act, how I see it – it should have a function that screams upon the shutter-click, “Your picture has just been captured by [fill in cellphone number]. Contact the police if you do not authorise this act.” Now, that will be an alert.
